    Early life

    Growing up with Grit

I grew up in a humble home. My father was a street vendor, and my brother and I would help him after school and university. During festivals like Diwali and Rakhi, we sold lights and rakhis in the local markets to support our family. My mother stitched clothes at home to contribute as well.

Watching my parents work tirelessly taught me what resilience and responsibility truly mean. Money was tight, but we had a strong foundation of values and work ethic.

    Academic journey

    A Student who Struggled

Academically, I wasn't exceptional. I scored a 6 CGPA in 10th grade and often felt lost, unsure of where I was headed. That changed when a few teachers introduced me to German.

I had no idea where it would lead, but I followed the spark. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

    Professional experience

Learning and Teaching Side by Side

I enrolled in a Bachelor's in German Studies and later completed a Master's in German Studies. But studying at Delhi University, attending Goethe-Institut courses, and living in Delhi was expensive. To make ends meet, I began teaching German. At first, it was about survival. Soon, it became a passion.

I taught at language schools like Study Feeds, Boundless Kochi, Lingma, and even served as a Guest Professor at Delhi University (Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Sri Venkateswara College, and colleges in South India). I also spent years working with Goethe-Institut, organizing multiple cultural and academic events across Delhi.

    Building GermanWithAmit

Teaching gave me a mission. I saw how powerful language could be in changing lives—mine and my students'. That's when I started GermanWithAmit.

It began with a handful of learners. Then came Instagram. Slowly, it became a growing community of over 130,000 people.

Since moving to Munich, I've had the chance to meet so many of them in person—students, followers, and supporters who appreciate the work we do. These real-world connections remind me that this is more than just teaching a language—it's building a shared journey. Many of them, like me, come from small towns and big dreams.

    Scholarships & studies

Scholarships, Studies & Moving to Germany

My first scholarship was the DAAD HSK scholarship in 2017, which allowed me to take a language course at Freie Universität Berlin. Later, during the second semester of my master's program in 2019, I received a scholarship for an exchange semester at the University of Freiburg. This was followed by the DAAD 'A New Passage to India' program in Wuppertal, where I translated a Hindi novel into German. I then received the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and Erasmus Mundus scholarships, which supported me further in my academic and cultural journey in Germany.

I've had the chance to live and study in multiple German cities: Freiburg, Wuppertal, Köln, Berlin, and Munich. I completed a Weiterbildung in DaF (German as a Foreign Language) from FHM Bielefeld and worked on projects like translating a Hindi novel into German and serving as an interpreter for the Indian Prime Minister's radio show, Mann Ki Baat.

After completing my master's, I joined Amazon Germany (HYD13), which gave me incredible insights into international work culture.

    Friendships

    Friendships Without Borders

Throughout this journey, I've had the joy of meeting incredible people from around the world—students, mentors, and friends from different cultures and backgrounds, who've taught me as much as I've learned from any classroom.

These friendships go beyond borders and languages. They've shaped how I see the world, made me feel at home in foreign places, and reminded me that connection is at the heart of learning.

Some of my closest friends today are from countries I had never imagined visiting. Together, we've shared cultures, food, struggles, and laughter—and grown in ways that no classroom could teach.

    Appreciation letter from German Ambassador

In 2024, I was honored to receive this personal letter from Dr. Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India:

“Your personal story, your language skills, and your journey in Germany have deeply impressed me. Biographies like yours inspire many young people and show how much you can achieve with perseverance and determination.”
